Pet Portraits from Photos

Pet Portrait Commissions in Soft Pastel

When I create my realistic pet portraits in pastel art I work from one main photo for each dog, cat, or any pet you want drawn. So the photograph that you supply me to work from is absolutely crucial when you commission a pet portrait.

Remember, I know nothing about the personality, appearance, or colouring of your pet; therefore, the process of commissioning a pet drawing from me starts with the ideal reference photo.

Commission A Portrait From A Photo

A commissioned pet portrait drawing is a beautiful piece of art drawn from your digital photos.

Commission A Portrait From A Photo

Clear, detailed, well-lit photos allow me to highlight every little detail of your pet’s fur and features. High-resolution images with good lighting are crucial to capturing the true spirit and personality of your pet.

A selection of good portrait reference photos for the drawing of your pet should be emailed to me for my perusal. I will get back to you, suggesting which portrait drawing reference I think will be the best option.

Pastel Pet Portrait Layouts

My style of drawing is to concentrate on the personality and appearance of your pet on a plain background that may have tonal shading to enhance the drawing.

If you would like a specific background included, there will be an extra charge that I will discuss with you first.

My animal portrait commissions can be drawn in landscape or portrait format, depending on your provided photo.

Pet Portrait Commissions Materials

After I receive the reference photo, I start the artistic process of making a unique pet portrait drawing.

I use premium soft pastels to create my pet commissions (sometimes known as chalk pastels) to carefully capture your pet’s likeness on paper, taking note of every little detail, including the texture of their fur, the expression in their eyes, and the shape of their nose and ears.

Pet Portrait Commissions

I make use of my 30 years of experience and eye for detail to create a lifelike image of your pet. My dedication to quality guarantees that every drawing accurately captures the features, character, and playful nature of your beloved pet.

The materials I use to create your pet art commission are of the highest quality, using well-known brands:

  • The soft pastels are highly lightfast, with a soft chalk finish.
  • The paper I like to use is a small to medium-tooth acid-free paper with a good weight and is lightfast.

Pastel paper is available in a range of beautiful tones that will complement your pet drawing commissions perfectly.

Pet Portrait Sizes

Choose between A4, A3, or A2 paper sizes.

Each pet portrait commission is drawn onto A3 or A2-sized paper, giving you room to crop when framing.

If you are looking to order a specific size, please feel free to get in touch, and I will be happy to discuss a bespoke quote.

Once the custom pet portrait is complete, I will send you a digital photo of the artwork to make sure you are happy with the outcome prior to delivery.

Commissioned Pastel Pet Portrait Prices

My pastel dog portraits are available in 3 standard sizes: A4, A3, and A2.

These sizes are not set in stone. If there is a specific size you would like, just enquire, and I will let you know if it is possible. I will quote you accordingly.

The prices do not include a background. If you would like to request a specific backdrop, I will quote you accordingly once I have viewed your request.

Pastel Portrait Commission Lead Time

If you are ordering the drawing for a special occasion, such as a birthday or Christmas, please keep in mind that lead times can vary based on the size of the painting and time of year.

Be sure to order in plenty of time if there is a specific deadline. You don’t want to be disappointed.

Upon ordering, I will advise of an anticipated completion date.

Once I have completed the realistic pet portrait you have commissioned, I will email you an image for your approval.

Packaging and Framing

To prevent creasing, damage, or smudging, artwork is carefully wrapped in tissue paper and placed into a sturdy tube.

Upon arrival, it is advisable to have the drawing opened by a professional framer.

A soft pastel drawing is very susceptible to smudging and smearing if not handled correctly and protected.

A chalk pastel should be framed behind glass with a mount to keep the glass off the pastel.
